Veerappan Subramanian, Ph.D. – President & CEO
Dr. Veerappan Subramanian is the President & Chief Executive Officer of Novel Laboratories, Inc.
Veerappan has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and has developed and commercialized in excess of 200 specialty drug products. Prior to founding Novel Labs, Veerappan founded Kali Laboratories, Inc. in 1997. He grew Kali from a developmental company to a full service pharmaceutical company which he sold to Par Pharmaceutical, Inc. in 2004. Veerappan continued to serve as Executive Vice President of Par until 2006, helping to transition Kali Labs into Par. Prior to founding Kali Labs, Veerappan was Vice President of Scientific Affairs at IVAX/Zenith Laboratories from 1990 until 1996. He joined Zenith as part of the executive team responsible for revitalizing and developing the company which was ultimately sold to IVAX in 1994 for over $600 million. From 1984 to 1990, Veerappan was Director of Product Development and Technical Services at Purepac Pharmaceuticals where he developed and commercialized over 50 specialty pharmaceutical drug products. Veerappan worked at Johnson & Johnson as a Senior Scientist from 1978 to 1980 and as a Senior Scientist for Richard Vicks from 1981 to 1984. From 1973 to 1975, Veerappan worked in India for a division of Squibb.
Veerappan has both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Pharmacy. In 1981, he received his Ph.D. in Pharmacy from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He is a registered pharmacist in New York and New Jersey.
Pablo Martinez, MBA – Director, Operations
Pablo Martinez joined Novel Laboratories, Inc. in June 2010 as Director of Operations. Pablo has over 15 years of experience in Pharmaceutical Operations, including Manufacturing, Packaging, Warehousing, Facilities and Cost Control. Pablo has spent his career in branded as well as generic firms, both public and private. He is currently responsible for Manufacturing, Packaging, Inventory Control, Warehousing, Shipping, Facilities, Engineering, Purchasing and Production Planning for Novel.
Prior to joining Novel, Pablo was V.P. of Supply Chain/Manufacturing for Holopack International in Columbia, South Carolina and held various positions at Par Pharmaceuticals. At Par Pablo formed the Operations Cost Management department which consisted in Operations Analysis, Continuous Improvement, Packaging Engineering and Industrial Engineering. These put in motion savings of over 25 million dollars for Par. Pablo was instrumental in the installation of 4 new packaging lines in a newly constructed building addition. He also led the Manufacturing team in the configuration and installation of JD Edwards in Spring Valley, NY.
Pablo earned his Bachelor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Delaware and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from New York University – Stern.
James Garegnani – Director, Product Development
Jim Garegnani joined Novel Laboratories, Inc. in August 2010 as Director, Product Development. With over 35 years experience in Pharmaceutical Research, including Product Development, Process Development, Technical Support, Technology Transfer, and Marketed Product Support of Solid and Liquid Dosage Forms, his career has given him a broad experience in development of generic, branded and OTC products. He has lead cross-functional teams in managing multiple projects in an inter-departmental environment, has extensive experience in contract development & manufacturing, and has been a pioneer in developing modified release dosage forms – an area in which he is co-author of four patents.
Prior to joining Novel, Jim was Director, Formulation and Process Development for KV Pharmaceutical with responsibilities for formulation and process development as well as managing two GMP pilot plants. Before leaving KV, Jim was responsible for establishing quality systems and procedures- including QbD and risk management- to ensure regulatory compliance for all product development activities in accordance with FDA and ICH guidelines as part of a quality management system.
Jim earned his Bachelor in Chemistry degree from Monmouth College and taken several management courses (MBA) from Southern Illinois University.
Kevin Anderson – Vice President, Business Development
Kevin Anderson joined Novel Laboratories, Inc. in July 2008 as Vice President of Business Development. With over to 20 years of experience in Sales & Marketing in the pharmaceutical industry, Kevin seeks and evaluates new business relationships and opportunities for Novel and manages existing relationships. He engages in concept and brand development, assessment of marketing opportunities and target markets, intelligence gathering on customers and competitors, generating leads for possible sales, follow-up sales activity and formal proposal writing and business model design.
Prior to joining Novel, Kevin held senior management positions with Actavis, a dynamic worldwide generic company, and with Amide Pharmaceutical a US generic pharmaceutical manufacturer. At Actavis he led the commercial integration of the US acquired companies Amide Pharmaceutical, Alpharma/Purepac, and Abrika. Prior to the Actavis acquisition, his role at Amide was Vice President of Sales & Marketing where he grew profitable sales in excess of $125 million. Kevin has developed strategic and lasting relationships with key customer executives in the following trade organizations: Chain Drug (NACDS), Mail Order Pharmacy (PCMA) and Wholesaler/Distributor (HDMA).
Swapan Roychowduri (Roy), MBA - Director of Analytical R&D and Quality Control
Roy joined Novel Laboratories, Inc in November 2010 as Director of Analytical R&D and Quality Control. With over 30 years of experiences in the pharmaceutical industry, he directs Novel’s Analytical Services and Quality Control divisions to enhance and ensure compliance with regulatory, Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines, policies and procedures.
Throughout his career, Roy has leveraged his technical expertise and management skills at many successful generic pharmaceutical firms such as Actavis, Par Pharmaceuticals, Zenith/Goldline Pharmaceuticals, and Purepac Pharmaceutical Co. A shrewd problem-solver, Roy has developed analytical tests and quality systems for over a hundred ANDA submissions within highly competitive timelines.
Roy earned an Executive Master of Business Administration in General Management from Rutgers University in 1988. He has also taken numerous classes in Industrial Pharmacy.
Scott Talbot – Director, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
Scott Talbot joined Novel Laboratories, Inc. in November 2010 as Director of Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance. In this role, Scott oversees the quality operations and GMP compliance for the Company and all communications with regulatory agencies. Scott brings more than 20 years of pharmaceutical industry experience with extensive knowledge in cGMPs, FDA guidance, USP requirements and ISO standards.
Prior to joining Novel, Scott worked as a principal consultant helping companies such as Becton Dickenson and Valeritas develop their Quality Systems for new product introductions, and enhance their existing Quality Systems in response to FDA 483 and Warning Letters. During his career, he has also served as a Quality Administrator for various industry stalwarts such as Teva, Actavis and Baxter in which he developed, implemented, managed, and streamlined their Quality Systems.
Anu Radha Subramanian, Esq. – General Counsel
Anu Radha Subramanian joined Novel Laboratories, Inc. in May of 2007 as General Counsel. As General Counsel, Anu reviews and advises on all legal matters at Novel, including patent matters, business agreements, and regulatory issues. Prior to joining Novel, Anu was an associate at the law firm of Berkowitz, Lichtstein, Kuritsky, Giasullo & Gross, LLC where she specialized in Taxation and Trusts & Estate Planning.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2002, Anu went on to earn her law degree at American University’s Washington College of Law, cum laude, in 2005. Anu is a member of the bar in New Jersey and New York.
Arshad Kagalwalla – Director, Finance
Arshad Kagalwalla joined Novel Laboratories, Inc. in November 2008 as Director of Finance. Arshad has over 10 years of experience in Finance & Accounting and 5 years in the Generic Pharmaceutical industry. He is currently responsible for the Accounting Operations, Financial Planning & Analysis and Budgeting & Forecasting for Novel.
Prior to joining Novel, Arshad held various positions at Par Pharmaceuticals, within the Finance & Accounting department. In his role at Par as Associate Director, Research Finance, he managed an R&D budget in excess of $75 million. He was in charge of the R&D tax credits resulting in annual tax benefit of approximately $1.2 million. He also led the systems integration of JD Edwards for its wholly owned suibsidiary, Kali Laboratories, Inc.
